HYUNDAI CASTROL WORLD RALLY TEAM
Report by Dae Un Lee VP of R&D ...

The year 2000 heralds a new era for the Hyundai Castrol World Rally Team. On 15 September 1999, Me. Dae Un Lee, Executive Vice President of Research and Development, unveiled the Hyundai Accent World Rally Car, the 2000 Challenger in the FIA World Rally Championship.
The car, the latest to join the World Rally Car category, is the result of nine months design and engineering work by the Hyundai World Rally Team.
Under the guidance of principal engineers Nick Clipson and Bob Bell, the team has created a technologically advanced rally car for the new millennium.

Based on the Accent, the car uses a turbo-charged 16-valve engine, developed by current engine partners Mountune, and the latest version of the Xtrac longitudinal four-wheel-drive transmission, originally designed by Motor Sport Developments.

Bodywork and aerodynamics were developed jointed by Mark Way of MSD and Peter Stevens, the latter responsible for the design of the Hyundai Coupe Evo 2 running in the Formula 2 category.

The announcement of the strengthened partnership between Hyundai and Castrol at the beginning of 2000 means that the team will benefit from Castrol's technical expertise, along with enhanced business relationships between the two world class companies.
